According to Shiv Purana, the fierce form of Mahadeva is Kalabhairava. Kalabhairava cut off Lord Brahma's fifth head in anger.Therefore, Kalabhairava festival is celebrated on this tithi with Shiva's wrath. Kalbhairava's carriage is considered to be a dog.It is said that to pleased Kal Bhairav, one has to feed a black dog on his birthday.  

On the other side, a person who recites Chalisha of Kalbhairava by lighting a four-sided lamp today at midnight, the malefic influence of Rahu is reduced in his life. Enemies are destroyed.After completing Durga Puja and Kali Puja people have started celebrating Bhairav ​​(Shiva) Puja. As there is a difference in the height, structure of the Bhairav ​​among different puja entrepreneurs, there is also a difference in the name.

For example: Nimbaba, Belbaba, Batbaba etc.

At present there are several Bhairab Pujas in Baharampur city but Bhairavatala near Khagraghat crematorium is the oldest.Puja organizers claim that this puja is 148 years old.  Earlier the height of Bhairav ​​was 34-35 feet.

 Before the abandonment, there was a possibility of accidents due to the electric cables that stretched over the streets during the city circuit.  For that reason the height has been reduced to 24-25 feet. This puja is done in the Sankranti month of Kartik. The specialty of Bhairav ​​of Bhairavatala Ghat is that the color of the father's body is light blue, with soft eyes.Particularly in Sunday is given Baba Bhairav's abandonment.A procession is worth watching during the immersion. Baba Bhairav ​​is circumambulated throughout the city of Baharampur, finally immersed in the Ganges.
