•Present location of various states described in Mahabharata:-

Mahabharata is a sacred scripture of Sanatan Dharma followers. But it is not just scriptures. It is the greatest epic of the world. It is regarded as a history book. The cities of Mahabharata survive to this day bearing witness to the unbroken India of ancient times and have advanced far in new history and guise. Today we will know the current status of those cities and their location.

Hastinapur – Meerut is a famous place in Uttar Pradesh, India. This Meerut of the Mahabharata period was called Hastinapur. Hastinapur was the capital of both Kauravas and Pandavas. There are many incidents related to this city in Mahabharata. Its location is east of Delhi. Near Meerut, on the south bank of the river Ganges.

Kurukshetra – The historical battle of Kurukshetra of Mahabharata took place here. North of Delhi is now a district of Haryana state. Located southeast of Thaneswar. Today this place is known as Kurukshetra. The ancient name of Kurukshetra is All Panchaka.

Gandhara – The city of Gandhara described in the Mahabharata is located on the west bank of the Indus River in Sindh province. Dhritarashtra's wife Gandhari was the daughter of King Subala of the city of Gandhara. Most of the region of #Afghanistan from the west bank of Indus river was called Gandhara country in ancient times. Kandahar in Afghanistan is the ancient city of Gandhar.

Takshashila – The name of the capital of Gandhara country was Takshashila. This city was located in present-day Rawalpindi, Pakistan. After the battle of Kurukshetra, Parikshit was inaugurated as king when the Pandavas started their march towards the Himalayas. But later he died of snake bite. To avenge his father's death, Parikshit's son Janamejoya sent Nagaraja towards Taxila and many snakes were killed by the Nagaraja's attack.

Ujjain – The ancient name of present Uttar Pradesh in India was Ujjain. This town was near Kashipur in Nainital district. Arms guru Dronacharya used to teach archery to his disciple Pandavas here. Many people also know this city as Bhimashankar because Panduputra Bhima installed an idol of Shiva in this city.

Madradesh – The northern country towards the Himalayas was called Madradesh. It is currently located in Nepal and parts of India. At that time Shalya was the king of Madras. King Pandu of Hastinapur married his sister Madri. Madri was the mother of Sahadeva and Nakula.

Shividesh – In the Mahabharata, South Punjab on the northern border of ancient India was called Shivi Desh. The king here was Ushinar. His granddaughter Devika was married to Yudhisthira. Ushinera's son Shaivya played an important role for the Pandavas during the battle at Kurukshetra.

Indraprastha – The city of Indraprastha is a famous city founded by the Pandavas. The city was built by destroying the Khandava forest in ancient times. The ancient name of Delhi is Indraprastha. Its ruins can be seen in present day Delhi. Discovery Channel has produced a beautiful archaeological documentary on Indraprastha.

Naimisaranya – Naimisaranya is located on the banks of river Gomti, in Sitapur district of Uttar Pradesh. The modern name is Nimsar.

Dwarka – Dwarka is located on the western border of Gujarat. Even today it is known as Dwarka. It is established by Lord Krishna. After his body was placed, the original city of Dwarka was flooded with sea water. The present-day submerged city of Dwarka has been discovered, which is well under the Arabian Sea from present-day Dwarka.

Magadha – The ancient name of present South Bihar is Magadha. Magadha was one of the sixteen Mahajanapadas or regions in ancient India. Among the sixteen Mahajanapadas, Magadha became quite powerful. This state currently consists of Patna in Bihar, Gaya and parts of Bengal. Rajgriha was the capital of Magadha, followed by Pataliputra. King Bimbasara was the first historical king of Magadha. He seized the organ.

Matsyadesa – Matsyadesa is the land of the great king, where the Pandavas lived in obscurity. There is disagreement about its position. However, the area near present day Jaipur is assumed to be a fish country.

Pundradesh – Pundradesh is North Bengal with Rajshahi-Dinajpur-Bogra. The ancient name of Mahasthangar in Bogra is Pundranagar. Everything of advanced civilization is there.

Banganga – The ancient Indian city of Haryana was called Banganga in Mahabharata. This town is located just three kilometers from Kurukshetra. Haryana is one of the pilgrimage destinations in India. Many tourists from different parts of the world come here every year.

Angadesh – present day Munger and Bhagalpur.

Panchal – Present day Punjab was called by this name. The nearby site of Hastinapur was also associated with it. According to scholars, Panchal is a vast area north and west of Delhi. Draupadi, the setting of the Mahabharata, was the princess of Panchal, hence she was called Panchali. And her name is Draupadi, the daughter of King Drupad.
