◆ Story of Sarang Thakur ◆ 

Sarang Tagore was a relative of Mahaprabhu who lived in the village of Jannagar near Navadwip.  He was a very just and devoted servant of Gopinath. When he reached old age, Mahaprabhu came to Sarang's house one day and said that the condition of your body, it is no longer possible for you to serve Gopinath properly.

  

Now you make disciples by mantra.  Sarang Thakur then said that he would make a disciple of whomever he saw first thing in the morning.  The next morning when he was sitting on the bank of the river for bathing in the Ganges and chanting Tarakabrahma, he suddenly saw something floating on the bank of the river.  

He noticed a boy's corpse with a new father, shaved-head around its neck.  He thought he must be a Brahmin son.  Some days it has become a father, maybe for some reason he died.  But he must keep his promise.  Thinking of this, Sarang Tagore picked up the boy and started chanting Krishna name Mahamantra in his ear several times.

● When that Krishnanam Mahamantra entered the meaning of the dead, his soul became anxious.  And suddenly the body of the boy began to vibrate.  Then seeing the scene, the other morning bathers were amazed at the sight and started chanting the name of Krishna.

When Sarang Thakur then asked the boy for his identity, he replied, "My name is Murari, my home is in Sardanga village. I have been a father for a few days now.  As the news spread, Murari's parents and relatives rushed to the spot.  

Although they were eager to take Murari home, Murari did not want to return home.  He decided to devote himself to the service of Sri Gopinath by taking a name from his life-giver Sarang Tagore.
