  ◆The story of King Surath:-
Surath is the epitome of the three main stories of Sri Sri Chandi. Surath was the king of the world.  He had a good reputation as a good ruler and warrior, but once in a battle he was defeated by a Javanese nation. On this occasion his ministers and courtiers seized his wealth and army.  While wandering in the forest, he came to the ashram of a sage named "Medha". Medha honored the king and took shelter in his own ashram.  He was always worried about the pros and cons of his lost kingdom. At that time, one day in the forest, King Surath saw a prostitute named "Samadhi".

Talking to him, King Surath found out that Samadhi's wife and sons had taken away all his money and possessions and kicked him out of the house.  But he is always worried about the welfare of his wife and children.

The question arose in their minds as to why those who have taken away everything from them are not angry with them and are worried about their good and evil. When King Surath asked him about Mahamaya, he told them three stories one by one.
(These stories are: -1) The story of Mahishasur, 2) The story of Shumbha-Nishumbha, 3) The story of Madhukaitav) These stories are the main subject of Sri Sri Chandi.
At the end of the story, it is seen that after hearing the story of "Medhar", Surath and Samadhi performed hard austerities and Durga Puja on the banks of the river for three years,  In this way the worship of Goddess Basanti is introduced.
